A Crash Course in Game Development with Common Lisp
In this workshop you will be guided through a rapid-fire crash course to develop a minimal game with the Trial game engine and the Common Lisp language. You'll see an example of the workflows it enables, get an idea of the various interactive features they provide, and see how they can be useful in the specific context of creating games.
Specifically you'll learn about:
- Common Lisp basics
- The Common Lisp Object System (CLOS)
- The debugger and restart systems
- Combining behaviours via mixins
- Interactive REPL workflow
What you will need to participate:
Interest in trying something weird and different!
A machine of your own to code on, or a deskmate who does and whom you can work with. The following are supported:
- Windows (10 or 11) Intel/AMD64
- Linux (any) Intel/AMD64
- MacOS M1/M2/M3
The workshop will be interactive, and I'll be around to assist in case you're running into issues or have questions and other things you'd like to try. You do not need any particular software preinstalled. Instead you will be asked to download a self-contained IDE we made for this workshop specifically.
